Urban Organics, a commercial aquaponic business located in Saint Paul, Minnesota, is seeking an energetic, thoughtful manager who has demonstrable experience in management, sales, agriculture, and/or food production operations. Any applicant should have an interest in food, specifically sustainable agriculture and organically produced food.
This position will oversee Urban Organics’ newest farm which is one of the largest commercial aquaponic farms currently operating in the United States and is poised to expand rapidly throughout the United States and abroad. This position will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and will collaborate closely with its President and Farm Managers to provide key leadership on a daily basis. In the fall of 2015, Urban Organics, an innovative local food startup, and Pentair, a global leader in water filtration and flow-control systems, formed a unique collaboration to accelerate the development of commercial-scale, modern aquaponics – Urban Organics Pentair Group, LLC (UOPG). As its first venture, UOPG has launched one of the world’s largest commercial aquaponics facilities in Saint Paul’s former Schmidt Brewery this year. This 80,000 square foot facility will provide 275,000 pounds of fresh fish and 475,000 pounds of organically grown produce to the local community and regional markets annually. Following the successful launch of the Saint Paul facility, UOPG plans to expand its operations rapidly within the US and abroad.
The general manager plans, directs and coordinates the operations of the farm and aids management in formulating and administering organization policies by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate managers.
This role manages and directs staff management in both plant and fish production, facilities and farm systems management, sales, human resources and administration. The role is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of direct reports and for carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the production areas. For the most part, the employee will be exposed to ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment.

This is a full-time position. Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; times may vary based on business needs.
Occasional travel is expected with this position.
